Helmet Review!

Mimi Reviews ‘Helmet’

In a Year once again clouded with uncertainty, there is only one thing I am certain about & that is my true love for Cinema!

As we enter the Autumnal months of 2021, we are welcomed by the refreshingly progressive Zee5 ‘Condom-edy’, Helmet. As Human beings, we often fear judgment and ‘Societal Pressures’ often dictate and further shadow any of those personal apprehensions we may have. Helmet (produced by DM Movies and Sony Pictures Networks Productions), in no way preaches to bring about ‘Social Revolutionary Change’, but rather leaves the Audience with a subtle social message, highlighted in a delicate manner.

Director Satramm Ramani entices us into a vibrant colour palette, set within the Heartlands of India. Satramm’s creative Milieu invites us into the beautifully authentic lives of the ‘Rangeen Residents’ of Raj Nagar.

Rohan Shankar’s quick-witted Screenplay and Dialogues are warmly received with some memorable gems, that genuinely made me laugh out loud! It is through Rohan’s carefully crafted Screenplay, that we are introduced to 4 uniquely woven Characters: ‘Lucky’, ‘Rupali’, ‘Sultan’ and ‘Minus’; each one commanding their own individual presence On-Screen.

Pranutan Bahl effortlessly transforms herself into ‘Rupali’- the ‘not your average girl next door’. Pranutan’s colourful & bold Dialogues are served with confidence and an absolute ‘Mean Punch’! (In fact, Pranutan’s “CHURAN!” Dialogue still makes my eyes tear up with laughter). It is so very refreshing to witness a well developed Female Character Arc, not just restricted to dance numbers or being the love interest.

Aparshakti Khurana’s ability to verbalise his Dialogues with a great sense of authenticity is successfully portrayed On-Screen. It is so heartwarming to watch a genuine Actor like Aparshakti take a leap into the Spotlight and become the ‘Everyman with a New Twist’.

Abhishek Banerjee has once again established his dramatic versatility, as his comedic timings are Bang On! What diverse range this Actor manifests! Abhishek has by far become one of my favourite Actors to watch out for across Films and the OTT Webspace.

Ashish Verma provides us with some genuinely funny moments throughout the Film and is so very relatable, as the naive & adorable ‘Minus’. In fact, Ashish’s ‘Minus’ reminds me so much of somebody I know!

However, the secret beauty of Helmet lies within the Entire Ensemble Cast. No matter how big or small, the Characters have been drafted with careful consideration, as each has a significant role to play within the Central Storyline of the Film. In fact, a few standout Characters I thoroughly enjoyed watching were: Jogi (played by veteran Actor Ashish Vidyarthi), Rani (Anurita Jha), the Seedy Cinema Hall Manager (Ranjan Raj), Nammo (Namita Pandey), the ‘Nirod’ Truck Driver (Kundan Kumar), Bunty (Sharib Hashmi), Chotu (Deepak Verma), the Barbershop owner (Jameel Khan) and of course, the judgmental & slightly creepy Pharmacist, Sambhu (Saanand Verma). Also, who could forget that surprise Cameo by Producer Dino Morea and Writer Rohan Shankar?

On a final note, what an incredibly pathbreaking time this has been for Dino Morea! Just a Week ago, Dino (The Actor) made a Roaring Entrance onto our TV Screens, as the magnificent Panther, ‘Shaybani Khan’ inside the Magnum Opus that is ‘The Empire’. This Weekend, we see Dino (The Producer) in another dynamic light as the Visionary Mind behind DM Movies; a Production House supporting truly Innovative Ideas. I am definitely looking forward to seeing Future Productions from DM Movies!

For those who’ve not yet seen this Film, head on over to Zee5 and watch Helmet now!
